Abortion and Breast Cancer

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that abortion of any kind raises the risk of breast cancer or any other type of cancer. 

Anti-abortion advocates have been inappropriately linking the emotional topic of breast cancer with abortion to instill fear. This is unacceptable, as the public is not well-served by false alarms.

Scientific research studies have not found a cause-and-effect relationship between abortion and breast cancer. This has been made clear by the most reputable and relevant bodies, including the Collaborative Group on Hormonal Factors in Breast Cancer, the US National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
